HoppyTrade, created by Brothers Loving Beer in 2020, is the first B2B marketplace in France dedicated to the distribution of craft beers. Brothers Loving Beer, founded in 2016, is renowned for importing and distributing top-of-the-range craft beers, particularly American ones, throughout France.

The context

Founded in 2016, Brothers Loving Beer was importing and distributing premium, mainly American, craft beers across France. In 2020, BLB expanded its offering to include French and European beers via the creation of HoppyTrade. Launched in August 2020, HoppyTrade was the first B2B marketplace in France dedicated to the distribution of craft beers, aiming to centralise sales and purchasing channels for professionals in the sector. Although HoppyTrade enjoyed some success, the platform eventually closed.

The challenge

HoppyTrade faced a number of challenges:

  • Stock control and supply management: providing vendors with the ability to manage their stock and logistics
  • Sales network for breweries: provide a sales channel for breweries to reach a larger number of professional customers
  • Centralisation of the offer: provide a centralised and complete offer for professional buyers

The solution

HoppyTrade worked with Wizaplace to create a B2B marketplace to connect breweries, importers and distributors of craft beers with potential buyers such as bars, restaurants, hotels and other establishments. The platform offered a refrigerated supply chain optimised to ensure fast, high-quality deliveries.

Although the HoppyTrade marketplace has been closed down, it temporarily revolutionised the distribution of craft beers in France:

  • Over 1,000 orders per year
  • More than 500 customers
  • 125,000 litres of beer sold per year
  • Sales doubled in eight months

 

A recipe for success

The collaboration between HoppyTrade and Wizaplace resulted in the deployment of an innovative platform that met the needs of craft breweries and professional buyers. Despite the marketplace’s closure, the project demonstrated the importance of innovation in the craft beer distribution sector.
