The Covid-19 economic crisis has been accompanied by an upheaval in consumer purchasing habits. Indeed, merchants and restaurateurs have massively turned to Click & Collect and drive to ensure the continuity of their activities. As we gradually return to normal, what does the future hold for these new purchasing methods?
An ad hoc enthusiasm?
The return of consumers is now organised in compliance with strict health measures. Therefore, the question arises of the future of Click & Collect and Drive systems, widely popular for more than two months. These purchasing methods are under threat of a “return to normal”, if customers aspire to return to stores and resume their pre-confinement habits.
On the other hand, Click & Collect can only continue if merchants and restaurant owners capitalise on their investments and continue their efforts to promote these purchasing methods.
A logical continuation rather than a profound change
This is not new, we have already been observing the rise of omnichannel or phygital for several years, thanks in particular to the ease of access to Click & Collect systems. Many merchants were already equipped and had already seen the benefits of these new sales channels. The Covid-19 crisis has only accelerated the democratisation of Click & Collect and takeaway sales.
Firstly, the survival instinct of traders, but also the proliferation of commercial offers to help with the transition, including that of LUNDI MATIN, made it possible to accelerate this change which was already underway.
And now, what future for Click & Collect?
Thanks to Click & Collect solutions for catering and retail, several hundred brands have been able to continue at least part of their activity during the crisis. Since the end of lockdown, we have noticed that the merchants who have equipped themselves mostly want to keep the system in place, whether to capitalise on the efforts made during the crisis, or to remain operational in the event of a second wave.
Another surprising phenomenon is that some merchants who did not equip themselves during the Covid-19 crisis now wish to deploy a Click & Collect solution, because they notice that their neighbours or competitors are already offering it… So it is for the stake to worry about being in this new standard that merchants adhere to these new uses!
Facilitated by the connection with cash register software and by the development of omnichannel management solutions, the democratisation of Click & Collect therefore tends to accelerate and become a lasting part of the new sales channels essential to a merchant.
