What are French Days?
The first edition of French Days was launched in March 2018 by a group of major French retailers. They are Showroomprive.com, Fnac-Darty, Cdiscount, Rue du Commerce, Boulanger and La Redoute.
They wanted to create a shopping event similar to Black Friday, but only available in France. In short, a French-style Black Friday, valid in shops or online for participating brands.
The aim was to boost sales for French retailers during slower periods, i.e. outside the sales periods. The aim was also to offer French consumers discounts on a wide range of products.
The 6 founding brands have also created a logo and slogan dedicated to the event. “Les French Days, committed offers for purchasing power”.To join the event, retailers must register on the “Join French Days” website. In other words, you have to join the movement by declaring yourself.

When are French Days held?
French Days take place twice a year, outside the sales periods. It is in the spring and autumn that you can take advantage of discounts, generally at the end of April and the end of September.
The sales event lasts about a week, giving customers the opportunity, over a short period, to take advantage of special offers.
For example, the Autumn French Days 2023 took place from September 26th to October 2nd 2023.
This year, French Days will run from 30 April 30th to May 7th 2024. For the autumn period, they are scheduled to run from September 27th to 30th September 2024.
Growing popularity
Having only been around for a short time, it’s likely that you’ve never heard of French Days. Nevertheless, they are growing in popularity year on year.
French consumers who are aware of this event look forward to it to make savings on their purchases.
On the brand side, the event is also becoming increasingly popular. More and more brands are taking part: In 2018, 68 retailers joined the movement. 3 years later, their number has more than tripled. By 2021, there will be 257. However, some sectors are not represented at all, such as pharmaceuticals and optics.
What’s more, others are following the trend by offering discounts over the period in question, but are not joining the movement.
